Training Qualifications & Requirements

LGS Project Managers, Engineers, Design Detailers, Inspection officers and Estimators require the following skills and knowledge:

• Computer literacy – Computer aided design techniques,
• Building construction knowledge and terminology (building structures and site processes),
• Factory construction knowledge (understanding of assembly process),
• Ability to apply mathematical techniques to engineering design,
• Civil Engineering Structures
• Structural principles, building codes and standards requirements; and,
• Knowledge/understanding of ‘detailing processes’ and software.

Roofing: Project Managers, Roof Detailers, Estimators and Inspection Officer require the following skills and knowledge:

• Computer literacy – Computer aided design techniques,
• Building construction knowledge and terminology (building structures and site processes),
• Factory knowledge (understanding of production process),
• Ability to apply mathematical techniques to engineering design,
• Roofing Profiles
• Quantity Surveying & Construction Economics
• Knowledge/understanding of ‘detailing processes’ and software.

Installation: Installers (Trusses and Roofing), Carpenters, Construction Technicians

• Building construction knowledge and technology (building structures and site processes),
• Carpentry Background
• Basic identification of Roofing Profiles

Typically, candidates for the course will be drawn from a number of areas:

• high school graduates with technical aptitude,
• building and construction backgrounds e.g. carpenters, plumbers, builders,
• an engineering drafting background,
• manufacturing production operations or factory floor operators,
• Persons branching out from other trades such as plumbing, mechanical trades –steel fabricators and welders.
• a design background - architect or architectural draftsperson
• Civil & Mechanical engineering
• Related construction roles – estimator or certifier.
